Boundary Set

a special CGMES model describing the links between adjacent TSOs and used to create/validate IGMs and to create CGMs.

BMA

Boundary Management Application

a placeholder for a future ENTSO-E application used to handle and export boundary information. The BMA is providing the official boundary set used for the creation and validation of CGMs.

CACM

Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management

Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/1222 of 24 July 2015 establishing a guideline on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management.

CCC

Coordinated Capacity Calculation

The CCC Service represents the task, required by the FCA Regulation (for Y-1 and M-1 timeframes) and CACM Regulation (for D-1 and ID timeframes) which allows to calculate the maximum secure level of transmission capacity that can be made available to the market for a specific time period and in a specific timeframe (i.e. Y-1, M-1, D-1 or ID).

Common Information Model

a standard provided by IEC to enable the data exchange in the electrical power industry based on commonly agreed and compatible data formats.

CGM

Common Grid Model

as of Article 2(2) of Regulation (EU) 2015/1222 the term CGM refers to a Union-wide data set agreed between various TSOs describing the main characteristic of the power system (generation, loads and grid topology) and rules for changing these characteristics during the capacity calculation process. There can be similar models on the level of synchronous areas which strictly are not CGMs (not Union-wide) but merged models.

CGMA

Common Grid Model Alignment

one of the OPDE business applications providing balanced net positions and aligned HVDC flows for all time horizons before day-ahead (i.e. D-2 and Y-1) where no commercial schedules are available to generate IGMs.

CGMES

Common Grid Model Exchange Standard

the ENTSO-E and IEC approved related standards that enables exchanges for the data necessary for regional or pan-European grid development studies, and for system operation processes required from the network codes. For the grid models the IEC 61970-600-1/2 Common Grid Model Exchange Specification (CGMES) is used for creating the Individual and Common Grid Models.

a set of documents (3 versions) legally describing the proposal for a CGM methodology driven by the EU network codes.

CGS

Critical Grid Situation

The CGS Service represents the task, not legally mandated but agreed by all TSOs at ENTSO-E level. A Critical Grid Situation is a potential emergency state, identified in the operational planning phase. During a Critical Grid Situation, the available regular countermeasures are exhausted and therefore TSO(s) are required to take regionally coordinated extraordinary countermeasures.

The CSA Service represents the task, required by SO Regulation, which allows to plan (in D-1 and in ID timeframe) a coordinated activation of RAs around Europe to ensure a secure operation of the interconnected power system.

a CGM building time horizon to represent the forecasted generation and load for a specific day (D) one day before execution.

Generation and Load Data Provision Methodology

a set of documents (2 versions) driven by the EU network codes that legally describes a proposal and a procedure how to formally define the generation and load data to be included into the Individual Grid Models. Thus GLDPM defines how to decide about the degree of detail and content of the IGM.

a way to transport electrical power over long distances with less losses in contrast with alternating current.

ID

Intra-Day

CGM building a time horizon to represent the forecasted generation and load for the execution day the next upcoming hours.

as of Article 2(1) of Regulation (EU) 2015/1222 the term IGM refers to a data set describing power system characteristics (generation, load and grid topology) and related rules to change these characteristics during capacity calculation, prepared by the responsible TSOs, to be merged with other individual grid model components in order to create the common grid model.

MVS

Minimum Viable Solution

The MVS contractual framework describes the interaction of all participants for both OPDE and PCN. The contract is designed in the form of a Multilateral Agreement between ENTSO-E, TSOs and RSCs.

NMD

Network Modelling Database

an ENTSO-E product used by TSOs as instrument for definition of new connections between regions, established by Boundary Points1, reaching agreement on parameters of new line and verifying if created models are relevant, properly built and fit into existing models of connections, among other functionalities.

OPC

Outage Planning Coordination

an RSC business process to create a single register for all planed outages of grid assets to enhance governance of assets’ maintenance. Identifies long-term outage incompatibilities between relevant assets and proposes solutions to relieve them. Applicable for the Y-1 and W-1 time horizons.

OPDE

Operational Planning Data Environment

as of Article 3(74) of Regulation (EU) 2017/1485 the term OPDE refers to the set of application programs and equipment developed in order to allow the storage, exchange and management of the data used for operational planning processes between TSOs.

OPDM

Operational Planning Data Management

a set of distributed software components (all part of OPDE) to support the publication/subscription, validation, storage and retrieval of grid models and other information.

PEVF

Pan-European Verification Function

soon to be one of the OPDE business applications used for matching market schedules and providing the output to generate IGMs.

PCN

Physical Communication Network

the communication network of OPDE used for data exchange and connecting all parties, nodes and applications.

PPD

Pre-Processing Data

a set of preliminary total net positions and unbalanced DC flows provided by a TSO to the CGMA platform to compute a reference program for the creation of IGMs for time horizons where no market data is available (i.e. D-2 and Y-1).

QAS

Quality Assurance Service

a set of distributed software components to check the quality of grid models and display relevant information on a web portal.

RSC

Regional Security Coordinator

as of Article 3(89) of Regulation (EU) 2017/1485 the term RSC refers to the entity or entities, owned or controlled by TSOs, in one or more Capacity Calculation Regions performing tasks related to TSO regional coordination.

RSCF

Regional Scheduling Coordination Function

an entity responsible to provide pre-verified scheduling data to the PEVF for all areas belonging to it; can be a TSO or RSC.

SOC

System Operation Committee of ENTSO-E established under the ENTSO Articles of Association and Internal Regulations.

Transmission System Operator

as of Article 2(4) of directive 2009/72/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 July 2009 concerning common rules for the internal market in electricity and repealing Directive 2003/54/EC the term TSO refers to a natural or legal person responsible for operating, ensuring the maintenance of and, if necessary, developing the transmission system in a given area and, where applicable, its interconnections with other systems, and for ensuring the long-term ability of the system to meet reasonable demands for the transmission of electricity.

Y-1

Year-ahead

CGM building a time horizon to represent the forecasted generation and load for several time frames in that year to calculate either the capacity or the outages in the grid.
